1. Congratulations on being a MomDot Feature Boutique! Please introduce yourself to the MomDot readers!
I am a mother of three beautiful children, three year-old twin boys and a two year-old daughter. Although, a native of New Orleans, I have lived in South Carolina and Florida before settling in the capitol city of Baton Rouge.
Living life to the fullest is my motto, as I never want to look back and think, “what if”? Whether it be a job opportunity, travel planning, family planning or in this case, staring my own company.
2. What is the inspiration behind your product?
Gemini GreetingsTM was inspired by my twin boys, coupled with the need for
cards to give to their playmates for birthdays or special holidays. When I would search for a simple card to give “from the two of us” that reflects children, I could not find anything.
The frustration turned into a bright idea that grew over a period of a year before finally taking the plunge.
3. How did you take your product from concept to reality?
My first instinct was to search high and low for ANY cards made for twins or other multiples. It was a lengthy search, but I did surprisingly find a few e-commerce shops offering these unique products. I already knew from my personal experience that card stores and big box retailers either didn’t offer cards for families with multiples, or had one or two to choose from.
I wrote a business plan, researching the cost factors in starting an e-commerce along with the marketing and productions of these high quality greeting cards. Obtained a business loan through a local bank and launched my site January 2008.
4. How do you find time to be creative with 3 kids ages 3 and under?
I work outside of the home in addition to running my company. I had the good fortune to stay at home with the twins during my second pregnancy and found a new admiration for SAHM. I am not cut out to be one of those lucky ladies.
I spend my days as an Executive Assistant to the President of a software company and my nights managing Gemini GreetingsTM after the kids are asleep. The workday fluctuates in tasks, so when there is downtime, I work on projects, promotions for Gemini GreetingsTM
5. What sets your company apart from your competitors?
Currently, the majority of Gemini Greeting cards are sold from my website, same as my competitors, however, you are more likely to find my cards before theirs when searching on the online. I have taken the time to understand SEO (search engine optimization), link exchanging and ensuring that my website has a good reputation on the internet.
Outside of the technical factors, customer service is key. I also believe that giving individualized attention based on the needs those shopping with Gemini GreetingsTM or potential customers are factors in our success.
6. I love the Halloween card design! Which is your favorite? How do you come up with new designs?
My favorite design is the Hopscotch Valentine’s Day card. But, of course, I love them all!
New designs are determined by annual holidays where there is a demand in sending greeting cards. I also take suggestions from customers, fellow parents of multiples and the general public.
7. What is your most popular product?
By far the Twin Birthday cards are our most popular! The great thing about these cards is that they are blank inside and can be used to give to twins or from twins. So they offer great versatility.
8. What’s next for your boutique? Any giveaways, sales, promotions in the near future?
Gemini GreetingsTM has a busy schedule this fall! October we begin our
campaign as one of six Gold Sponsors to partner with the Gal-to-Gal Virtual Walk benefiting those diagnosed with Phase IV Breast Cancer.
